Aquaculture and Fisheries Business Conduct Workshops Series
the case
The aquaculture and fisheries sectors play a critical role in food security, coastal livelihoods, and marine ecosystems across Europe. At the same time, they face increasing scrutiny related to environmental impacts, particularly marine plastic pollution and abandoned, lost or otherwise discarded fishing gear (ALDFG), as well as rising expectations around responsible business conduct and ESG performance.
cThe project focused on strengthening ethical awareness, sustainability literacy, and professional accountability within aquaculture and fisheries value chains.
PROJECT GOALS
DOTANK Plus’s goal was to design and deliver applied ESG capacity-building workshops that strengthen responsible business conduct in the aquaculture and fisheries sectors, with a focus on translating sustainability principles into practical, sector-relevant tools.
DOTANK Plus was responsible for:
- Designing and delivering tailored ESG and business conduct workshops for aquaculture and fisheries
- Raising awareness of marine pollution challenges, including ALDFG and marine plastic pollution
- Equipping students and early career professionals with practical ESG knowledge to support ethical decision making and long-term sustainability across marine value chains
our approach
1. Sector-Specific ESG Framing
Workshops were designed to reflect the operational, regulatory, and environmental realities of aquaculture and fisheries. ESG concepts were contextualized around marine ecosystems, supply chains, labor practices, and environmental risk, ensuring relevance for participants entering these sectors.
2. Applied Learning and Ethical Reflection
The training combined technical awareness on marine pollution and ALDFG with interactive discussions on ethical responsibility, professional conduct, and decision making.
3. Linking Environmental Impact to Business Conduct
The workshops connected environmental challenges with governance, compliance, and responsible business practices. This approach highlighted how sustainability performance and ethical conduct are increasingly interconnected.
4. Collaboration and Delivery
The Net Positive Project was implemented by DOTANK Plus and SEADEA on behalf of and powered by Healthy Seas, ensuring alignment between conservation expertise and ESG capacity building.
